Heating Repair

Hay’s Heating and Air Conditioning – Residential and Commercial Heating Repair Service.

Leaving your cozy bed on a foggy, grey winter morning can be tough. But it’s even worse if you do manage to get up, and find an unpleasant surprise – no heat!

Don’t let it happen to you. Keep your home-heating system running smoothly. Take a few simple steps to keep up with maintenance and discover any problems early. Otherwise, you may find yourself stuck at home waiting for repairs, while the chill settles into your bones.

Stay snug and warm all winter long, by following a few simple steps:

Have your furnace serviced regularly

You know how to treat your car. You bring it in for regular service; you change the oil; and, if something doesn’t feel right, you call the service station, or even just go. Your furnace is a sophisticated machine, too, and it’s just as important to maintain it well. Sure, you don’t think about it every day, and it’s not as much fun as some other machines. It’s out of sight, out of mind – until something goes wrong. You definitely do not want to get to that point.

We at Hay’s Heating and Air Conditioning recommend a once-a-year furnace maintenance appointment. We will perform a 30-point furnace tune-up and a complete safety inspection. We will check the air filters,  check copy with client, and review with you how often they should be changed. We will check the fan, pilot light, and more. Click here to schedule your appointment.

If you do need repair, know when to call a professional

If your furnace isn’t working, it could be from many things. If you haven’t been changing the filter regularly, then that could be your issue, and it would be easy to fix yourself. (By the way, please do make sure you remember to change your filters regularly. Or, we could do it for you during your yearly maintenance appointment.

Most furnace repairs require an Durham HVAC professional, but there are a few things you can do yourself, if you prefer. First, you can make maintain your unit. Keep the area around the furnace’s blower clean by vacuuming it out once a year, lubricating when necessary and changing the filters when advised. Or, we could do all of that during our yearly maintenance appointment.

Here’s what you can do yourself.

• Check all input and outputs. Is anything blocking the air flow?

• Check the thermostat. Raising the temperature by five or ten degrees. Wait a bit. Does the furnace kick on?

• And, the most important thing, check the filter. If it’s dirty, replace it with a clean one.

If none of these works, then it’s time to call Hay’s Heating and Air Conditioning, an HVAC professional.

Don’t forget about your heat pump

Heat pump maintenance is crucial. If your heat pump is not properly and regularly maintained, it could cost you much more in the long run. You can clean the filter and ensure a clear airflow, but the unit should also be maintained by an HVAC professional like Hay’s Heating and Air Conditioning.

Never attempt heat pump repair yourself. The units are complex, and you just don’t want to do-it-yourself when high voltage is involved. Inspections, maintenance and repairs must be done by an HVAC professional, and meet federal safety regulations.
